This is a condition wherein the body immune system attacks one own cells and tissues of the organ. The insulin generating cells of pancreas are destroyed in diabetes type-1.

In recent years Type 2 diabetes, traditionally a problem diagnosed in mature adults, is now the number one type of diabetes in children. This increase parallels with the rising rates of obesity in childhood along with the low amount of exercise children now take part in. Over recent years, less sport is played in schools, and other activities such as football after school hours have been replaced with PlayStation and Internet games.

There are two types of Diabetes. Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus is due to the destruction of cells of the pancreas that produces insulin thus there is none enough to metabolize sugar creating the different signs and symptoms. Type 2 Diabetes on the other hand is a condition wherein the body resists insulin or there is only a little amount of insulin produced. This type can be managed by change in lifestyle and following a healthy diet and exercise. The first type is what commonly occurs on children.

Type 2 diabetes has no recurrent history among the young people although in the recent times; there have been some isolated cases. It is more common among the adults and its occurrence in children can be explained by the fact that obesity has become prevalent among the children. It is also worth noting that the obesity can not bee blamed for the occurrence of type 1 diabetes.

Another symptom is excessive thirst. It happens because; your baby will get dehydrated if your baby has lack of insulin. Your baby will need to urinate more and for this reason, you feel the thrust. Your children will feel weakness and fatigue. It is another symptom of diabetes in children. Glucose in our blood needs to transform with the help of insulin. Otherwise, it cannot be utilized by our body cells. As a result, you feel weak and tired if you get diabetes. Extreme high rate of glucose in your blood can damage the nerve system.

The need to continually drink water or other liquids - In children with diabetes, fluids are pulled from the tissues of the body. This is because as sugar builds up in the bloodstream, it eventually reaches the point where the body has to get rid of the excess glucose. It does this by eliminating the excess sugar via the urine.

The body, however, cannot create urine without water. If the blood does not contain enough water, the body has no other choice than to extract water from the surrounding tissues. This, in turn, causes the body to become dehydrated which results in the thirst mechanism kicking in.

If you are noticing symptoms like the ones mentioned above it is time to get medical attention and see if your child does have diabetes. The test is simple and quickly applied. A small amount of blood is taken from your child, usually from the finger tip, and use a spot test to check whether there is an abnormally high level of glucose in the blood.

If the child was previously overweight then this symptom of child diabetes is welcomed by the parents otherwise the parents think the young one is going through the growth spurt.

Symptoms of gestational diabetes are similar to those of the other types of diabetes and as well include recurring urinary tract and vaginal infections, nausea, extreme fatigue, greater thirst and more frequent urination. Several of the gestational diabetes symptoms are rather similar to typical symptoms of an ordinary pregnancy, so it is essential to be screened for diabetes during pregnancy.
