Brain Tumor Symptoms

By AlnwickKajetan at 2010-10-12 02:42:50
My father recently was diagnosed with a brain tumor, and he exhibited some of normal Brain Tumor Symptoms. However he did not have all the typical symptoms of a brain tumor, this is quite common for someone to only exhibit a selection of the normal brain tumor symptoms.

Headaches. While a headache in a children is usually due to a much less severe disease, chronic headaches cannot be ignored. The headaches associated with tumors in the brain are more recurrent and increase in intensity over time. The child usually awakes in the middle of the sleep and the headache cannot be relieved by painkillers like ibuprofen or acetaminophen. Just like in adult brain tumor symptoms, the headaches get worse during change of position like lying down, bending or sneezing

The headache with brain tumor symptoms is entirely different from one due to stress. Sometimes, the patient experiences severe headache symptoms and complaints known as "red flags" connected with coughing, sneezing or bending over. All such symptoms are serious to any patient as they can consequently cause other complications. Many patients can also have some other attacks with neurological symptoms like partial memory loss and affected personality.

About 1/3 of those carrying brain tumors don't even realize it until they've had a seizure, a very common symptom of a brain tumor. They are caused by an interrupted flow of electricity to the brain, causing convulsions, unusual sensations and possible loss of consciousness. You may also experience focal seizures, such as a brief muscle spasm, feeling of tingling or interrupted speech problems.

In addition to the ordinary, but non-specific symptoms listed above, other more specific symptoms frequently occur. These "focal symptoms" can help identify the location of the tumor. Focal symptoms include: hearing problems such as ringing or buzzing sounds or hearing loss, decreased muscle control, lack of coordination, decreased sensation, weakness or paralysis, difficulty with walking or speech, balance problems, or double vision.

When it comes to difficult tumors, the glioblastoma multiforme or GBM is considered to be the one. This type of brain tumor is also considered to be one of the most dangerous in that it has such a high level of malignancy. Statistically, this particular brain tumor is considered to be the most common among adults that are considered to be middle-aged.

Angiogram - a particular dye is injected to the bloodstream and runs in the blood vessels inside the brain in order for them to appear on x-ray. If a growth is present, it can be seen by the doctor.

Many medical professionals may discover that it is most productive to use radiation treatment on children that suffer from brain tumors. This type of medical approach uses various types of radiation to totally destroy cells that are cancerous. In many cases, it is impossible to totally kill off the cells.

Usually, the specific symptoms and location of a brain tumor will help a doctor diagnose its type. For example, if the tumor is a brain stem gliomas, the patient will usually suddenly develop problems swallowing, impaired hearing or vision, difficulty or clumsiness walking, vomiting after waking up in the morning, nasal or slurred speech, and muscle paralysis on one side of the face.
