Managing Stress With Exercise

The fact is that when one is focusing on something, it makes him/her to dynamically move, or act, in turn keeps his/her mind busy and body working. There are different types of stress and it may also vary from person to person, it may be complicated as, stress due to fear, or it may be even simple, as stress due to uneasiness!

Exercise is one of the best ways to work ACTH out of your system. It is, in effect, simulating a fight or flight situation. In fact, there is a trend by health practitioners in many developed countries to prescribe exercise as a means to reduce stress rather than resorting to drugs.

If you do not have a membership at a gym, there are several outdoor exercises that you can do like going for a long walk, running, doing push ups, going for a hike, or swimming. You can also punch a punching bag, jump rope, or play a sport to release your energy.

Other physical stress management tips involve meditation and breathing techniques. Taking a few minutes out of a hectic day to find a quiet spot and concentrate on slow breathing can actually have a huge impact on how a person feels. For someone working in an office environment this can be done during a coffee or lunch break, and can help revitalize the individual and help them feel better equipped to handle the rest of their work day.

Having a good exercise program is another important factor in stress management. Exercise can make a person feel better. Exercise can help in managing stress from within the body and help you feel better inside and out. You will be burning off calories and helping your body become stronger and healthier by managing stress that you have accumulated.

Science has proved that when we exercise, endorphins are released in the body. Endorphins are also called happy hormones, and you can well imagine why. They cause a feeling of wellness to come over the body and generally increase our self-confidence. Now who wouldn't want the release of these happy hormones in their body?

Aerobic exercise such as running, walking, biking, and skiing can help keep stress levels down. Because aerobic exercise increases the endurance of the heart and lungs, an aerobically fit individual will have a lower heart rate at rest and lower blood pressure, less reactivity to stressors, and quicker recovery from stressors.

Just about any exercise will do the honor of giving you all the above-mentioned stress-busting benefits. But I would suggest you engage in 1 or 2 exercises you love and enjoy doing and that are fun. It's pretty hard to keep going with an exercise program if you don't enjoy it.

Besides having an exercise program, you can incorporate more physical activity into your daily routine. For example, you can use the stairs instead of the lifts whenever you have the opportunity. Also, you can choose to buy your daily newspapers by walking to store instead of having it delivered to your house.

If we are suffering with stress and don't do something positive about it we will take up more negative methods such as alcohol, drugs, smoking etc. thinking that this will help to control it. These provide only short term relief, at best.
