How To Treat Sinus Infection

By AlnwickKajetan at 2010-11-03 02:45:46
Sinus infection, also known as sinusitis, is an inflammation of the sinuses or cavities near the bone of the nose. This inflammation leads to the trapping of mucus in the sinus and the nasal membrane. Thus, a tremendous pressure is exerted on the sinus walls causing pain and physical discomfort. How to treat sinus infection needs to be discussed in detail.

The Blood Type Diet is very holistic in nature in that it encompasses both naturopathy and nutritional medicine. Naturopathy aims to enable the body to heal itself through fasting, diet, hydrotherapy and exercise while similarly, nutritional medicine aims to restore health through diet and supplements.

Treatment can also be helped at home through steam inhalation, application of warm compresses on the affected area, and use of a saline nasal spray. The conventional drug treatment is decongestants which should only be used for the short term. There are non drug remedies that are safer for adults and children which should be thought of first for the safety and side affects.

One of the best natural way on how to treat sinus infection is by using extract herbs like eucalyptus. You can use eucalyptus or peppermint extract as an inhalant to clear sinus cavities. People with sinus infection may try a cool mist humidifier by adding a few drops of eucalyptus oil to provide moisture to the sinuses and promoting healing.

If you already know the root of the problem, then you can start treating sinus infections by applying the appropriate treatment. There are various home remedies that can help you get a relief from the symptoms, but if your sinusitis comes with fever or headaches, then it is best for you to consult your physician first.

If you have an infection between the eyes then you feel pressure in the corner of your eyes or one side of your nose. You could also experience a headache in the temple, which will increase if it is strained.

Steam inhalation often works wonders, add some vinegar, Tea Tree or Peppermint oil to the hot water for quicker results. In the case of small children, use mildly warm water with just a tad of vinegar and/or essential oil. For them this is equally effective and at the same time safer as the steam or the hot water may burn their gentle skin.

Drinking plenty of fluids can help you clear your sinus blockage and end the pain. Avoid dairy products such as milk and soft cheese because it can further aggravate the situation. The doctor can prescribe an antibiotic to treat the infection. Antibiotics must be taken exactly as recommended by your doctor have since discontinuing them would make the infection immune to the drug.

A natural ways on how to treat sinus infection is by using the Neti pot. The Neti pot is used to pour a mixture of salt solution in warm water in one nostril and expelled through the other. The water rinses excess mucus from the sinus cavities and cleans them from infections. A sinus buster is used for relief from headache due to sinus infection.

The antibiotics in treating sinus infection are effective as they can kill these bacterial types. Amoxicillin is used as first choice in treating uncomplicated acute sinus infections. If the patient is allergic to penicillin cefaclor loracarbef clarithromycin), sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim may be used as first choices.
