Cirrhosis Symptoms

By AlnwickKajetan at 2010-11-12 02:47:46
Cirrhosis is a serious medical condition which is used to refer to a group of chronic diseases in the liver due to which the normal liver cells are damaged and simultaneously the amount of normal liver tissue decreases in quantity to be replaced by scar tissues. The symptoms through which this disorder is manifested are known as cirrhosis symptoms and although they may be very few at first, their presence increases with the increasing severity of the disease.

In time, jaundice a yellowing of your skin and the whites of your eyes and intense itching can develop. But other factors including damaged bile ducts, immune system problems and prolonged exposure to certain environmental toxins can cause liver scarring, too. Specific treatment for cirrhosis depends on the underlying cause, but anyone with cirrhosis must avoid alcohol and other substances that harm the liver.

OK, if you were a big eater before and now all of a sudden, you have a lot of nausea and don't have any interest in eating, there is probably something up. Again, it's an indicator from your body that something isn't working right. Trust your body. See a doctor to get tested.

Jaundice is one possible symptom. This condition is also known as icterus. In it, the skin gets a yellowish discoloration. It is also possible for the membranes over the whites of the eyes to become yellowed, as well as other mucous membranes in the patient. Raised bilirubin levels in the patient's blood lead to this discoloration. Those elevated levels are also known as a condition called hyperbilirubinemia.

Symptoms of cirrhosis of the liver can vary in different cases of the condition. One potential issue is ascites, which is a problem where fluid accumulates in the peritoneal cavity. Additionally, jaundice can occur. This is a yellowish discoloration that can affect the skin, membranes in the eyes, and other mucous membranes. A general feeling of fatigue is also possible.

When symptoms do occur with this condition the primary signs are fatigue with an overall general feeling of tiredness, and the skin becomes very itchy in certain areas and causes a darkening of the skin in those areas that have been scratched. Other symptoms that may occur include dryness in the eyes and mouth and the condition of jaundice which causes a yellowing of the skin and the whites of the eyes.

There are steps you can take to help your liver heal, which are beyond the scope of this article, however one obvious step would be to stay away from any alcohol or drugs other than any drugs that have been prescribed for you. Your diet becomes even more critical when you have this condition so be sure to do the research into natural remedies for dealing with cirrhosis to learn how to help your body heal.

Sometimes you start getting symptoms when the complications of cirrhosis start taking toll. You can get itching due to deposition of breakdown of bile products. Due to liver enlargement, abdominal pain can become a normal routine.

Sometimes, fluid retention leads to weight gain and swelling in abdomen, ankles and legs with breathing problems. Due to cirrhosis of liver, the toxins are not eliminated from body and affect your brain resulting in symptoms like delusions, hallucinations, confusion of mind, sleepiness and sometimes even comatose.

Usually, people with liver cirrhosis may experience symptoms such as loss of appetite, decline in body weight, nausea, pain in the abdominal area where the liver is, body weakness, and itchy skin. As the condition progresses, it can cause yellowish discoloration of the skin, muscle cramps, confusion or mental problems, and difficulty in absorbing alcohol and drugs.
