Stomach is a body organ that is responsible for breaking down the food into semi-solid state. The glands within the stomach produce several chemicals/enzymes that help in the digestion of the food. Formation of cancerous tissue within the stomach is known as stomach cancer.

Scientists have truly begun to learn the power of our mind and how that our own mind set and thinking can make us sick or help us get well. If you have learnt that you or someone you love has stomach cancer then apart from having to now put up the fight of your or their life then your going to need to clear and turn your mind and thinking around to one of healing and positivity and the knowing that you can heal yourself along with your doctors and give yourself the best chance of survival.

Nitrates and nitrites - these chemicals are added to certain foods, such as processed or cured meats such as ham and bacon, sausages and other cold meats you normally find down at the deli. Nitrates and nitrites combine with other substances in your stomach to form carcinogens, which are known to cause stomach cancer.

Once the diagnosis of stomach cancer is made, surgery is the treatment of choice. If it has spread to the lymph nodes or to the liver, you may also need chemotherapy. When stomach cancer is diagnosed early and thought to be cured by surgery, a careful search for Helicobacter pylori should also be made. When the bacteria is not found in the stomach by biopsy, a serological blood test should also be obtained

The nature and extent of the cancer determines what kind of surgery is most appropriate. Common surgical procedures include, partial and total removal of the stomach. Antiemetics can control nausea, which increases as the cancer advances. In the more advanced stages, sedatives and tranquilizers may be necessary to control anxiety. Narcotics are commonly necessary to control sever and unremitting pain.

Physical therapy techniques like massage therapy, reflexologies are used to ease the pains through manipulative techniques on the affected parts, through controlled movements, bending, stretching exercises and postures etc.

Foods, which include nitrates, are also of concern among cancer researchers. Foods such as hot dogs, certain deli meats, bacon and ham contain substances known to cause stomach cancer, as does red meat, and smoked or salted foods. Certain foods are believed to protect against stomach cancer, including fruits or vegetables. Items such as tomatoes, sweet potatoes and carrots are especially helpful in the prevention of this disease.

Following surgery, you will undergo some tests to see how much of the cancer has been removed and whether you will need to proceed to the next treatment which is typically chemotherapy. These drugs aim to kill the cancer cells and prevent them from multiplying. There are many ways doctors introduce the drugs, whether it be via the mouth, spine or even organs.

As yet there is no known preventive for cancer of any type. Hope lies in early discovery and prompt treatment. A patient who has had the symptoms described for any length of time should see a doctor at once. If a diagnosis of stomach cancer is established, arrangements will be made for surgery. Chances of recovery are good only if action is taken early enough.
